Dr. Christopher McGinley
Christopher McGinley's perspectives on leadership and learning have been shaped significantly by the roles that he has played as a teacher, school principal, district-level administrator, school district superintendent, and professor of educational leadership.
He recently concluded his service as Department Chair for Policy, Organizational and Leadership Studies at Temple University College of Education and Human Development, where he held the post of Professor of Practice. Dr. McGinley also served on the School Reform Commission and on the School Board of the School District of Philadelphia. Dr. McGinley’s leadership experiences include serving as Superintendent of Schools at the Lower Merion School District, Executive Director of the Delaware County Intermediate Unit, and Superintendent of Schools at the District of Cheltenham Township.
Dr. McGinley began his career in the School District of Philadelphia working as a special education teacher. In Philadelphia, he also served as an elementary and middle school principal, as a regional superintendent, and as Executive Director of Leadership Development. While serving as superintendent in Cheltenham, he partnered with the University of Pennsylvania to establish the Penn Center for Equity and Excellence, an organization that now includes more than fifty school districts dedicated to closing achievement gaps. Dr. McGinley earned a BS degree from Temple University in Elementary Education, a Master’s Degree in special education from Antioch University, and a Principal Certification at Temple University. He earned his Doctorate in Organizational Leadership at the University of Pennsylvania.
